Greetings Cougar Parents,
Cahoon Elementary Magnet School of Animal Science is an “A” School!
It is with tremendous pride that I celebrate our success! Our students achieved academic gains as a result of your support and teamwork with your child’s teacher. All members of our faculty and staff remained focused on achieving results by planning and delivering effective instruction to all students.
You may recall that at the opening of the 2008-2009 school year, I guaranteed that our combined effort would ensure that all students would make academic gains, and together we accomplished this goal! We confirmed that teamwork, our shared vision, and focus on Teaching and Learning Excellence are the strategies that we must maintain as we move forward in the 2009-2010 school year.
Cahoon’s students made academic gains in every subject area! The data below reflects the percentage of students that scored “Level 3 and above” on the FCAT. These figures represent the state’s high standards for student achievement:
Reading:
2007-08 70% 2008-09 75%
Math:
2007-08 70% 2008-09 75%
Writing:
2007-08 85% 2008-09 87%
Science:
2007-08 42% 2008-09 45%
As we celebrate our school grade, it is important to highlight that our faculty and staff strive to make learning meaningful and engaging for every child, every day. Our instructional strategies are designed to ensure that all students will improve academically and socially. As a magnet school, we recognize that our teaching and learning environment must surpass expectations. At Cahoon, ALL students have an opportunity to explore and investigate our animal science theme in order to become socially responsible citizens while improving their academic skills.
As we approach the 2009-2010 school year, Cahoon is prepared to “Turn up the Heat” in order to exceed the academic gains we accomplished. Once again, we need your support. Teaching and Learning Excellence can only be achieved through our joint effort.
I look forward to working together as partners in education throughout the 2009-2010 school year.
With Great Pride,
Joanne E. Griffiths, Principal
