Title I

Cahoon Elementary Magnet is a Title I School-wide Project serving a diverse population of students.  Cahoon's enrollment is around 400.  Cahoon offers a free and reduced lunch program.  Approximately 80% of our students enrolled receive free or reduced lunches qualifying Cahoon for the Title I program.  Title I is making a difference for our students.  Through Title I dollars, additional classroom teachers and support personnel have been added to the staff to meet the educational needs of our students.

In addition to staff, the use of Title I funding has been very instrumental in providing computers and software for our school to enrich our instructional program.  HP and Compaq computers, as well as printers are available in every classroom.  Each classroom has e-mail capability as well as Internet access.  Cahoon has utilized Title I funding to support our Accelerated Reader program and Waterford Early Learning Program for for primary students.

The collaboration of teachers and parents is key to Cahoon's success as a Title I school.  This is why we encourage the involvement of parents.  In order to promote a healthy partnership, parents are asked to sign a learning compact that describes what the parent, teacher, and student can do in order to help each child in our school be sucessful.  Parents are also encouraged to volunteer through the PTA, assist with special projects, serve on the School Advisory Council, and attend at least two conferences each school year.  To find out more information, please contact the main office.
